Rice is a great way of adding texture to baby food in stage 3. You can use other vegetables in place of the squash. Basmati rice is more easily digested than other rice, so is a better choice for very young children.

50g onion, chopped
25g unsalted butter
110g basmati rice
450ml boiling water
150g butternut squash, peeled and chopped
225g ripe tomatoes, skinned, deseeded and chopped
50g Chedder Cheese, grated

1. Saute onion in half the butter until soft
2. Stir in rice until well coated
3. Pour over boiling water, cover pan with a lid and cook for 8 minutes on a high heat
4. Stir in the butternut squash, reduce the heat and cook, covered, for about 12 minutes or until the water is all absorbed
5. Melt the remaining butter in a small saucepan, add the tomatoes and sauté for 2-3 minutes
6. Stir in the cheese until melted, then add the tomato and cheese mixture to the cooked rice
